Asansol Engineering College was established in the year 1998 in West Bengal. It is a highly sought-after institution and an affiliated college recognised by AICTE, offering the various branches of the undergraduate engineering courses along with management programmes sprawling across 17 acres of campus with an enrolment of 2,263 students and 143 faculty members, teaching 14 courses under 5 degree programmes. The undergraduate programme has nearly equal rations of sexes, comprising 70 percent males and 30 percent females. It offers specialisations in the most modern technological areas like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things. The AEC has state-of-the-art laboratories well equipped for hands-on training, a library with great numbers of reference books and e-journals, and modern IT infrastructures for digital learning.
AEC offers two independent hostels, boys and girls, where students can enjoy well-facilitated residential facilities, which are comfortable and convenient. There is a cafeteria, sports facilities, and a gymnasium on campus to ensure a good work-life balance in routine. An auditorium has been used as an event and seminar venue that enriches a vibrant culture in campus life. The health centre contains first-aid facilities. The college has a guest house where visiting faculty members along with their family members can be accommodated. AEC provides a broad range of courses to accommodate diversified academic interests. The institute offers 11 undergraduate programs, wherein the popular B.Tech courses are in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, and Communication Engineering.
Apart from these, it also offers postgraduate programmes like M.Tech in Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering with an MCA programme.
The college also runs BBA and BCA courses meant for those interested in management and computer applications. Total intake of AEC in all its programmes is 2,655. The most coveted one is B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, with an intake of only 240 students.
The merit-cum-entrance-based admission process is followed at Asansol Engineering College. WBJEE and JEE Main are conducted for admission into B.Tech programmes. To get eligible to pursue any of these programmes at Asansol Engineering College, a candidate has to seek competitive ranks in these examinations. The West Bengal University of Technology conducts PGET examinations, and admission is done based on rank to get into postgraduate engineering courses. For the MCA course, admission is through the JECA examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board.
