Established in 1964, the Government College of Engineering Amravati is the oldest engineering college that offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The college was established by the Government of Maharashtra along with three other government institutes at Pune, Aurangabad, and Karad.

Government College of Engineering Amravati offers admission to both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the field of engineering and technology. Students aspiring for Government College of Engineering Amravati admissions are required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria. For admission to the B.Tech course, students need to appear for the MHT CET/JEE Main entrance examinations.
All Indian citizen candidates shall be given preference, in addition to getting admissions for the candidates obtaining a valid score in JEE Main.
