Walchand College of Engineering, established in 1947 as New Engineering College with a B.E. (Civil) programme, was renamed in 1955 following support from the Seth Walchand Hirachand Memorial Trust and the Government. WCE Sangli became autonomous in 2007, granting it academic and administrative independence.
